I bet we’re going to get a Health Department now

Really? None? Nothing? Nada? Are they serious? It appears they are.
Delaware County Council chairman Brian Zidek says,

We are dependent on the Pennsylvania Department of Health to test, investigate, quarantine and monitor residents in Delaware County who have or may have COVID-19.
Currently, the Pennsylvania Department of Health will not give us any information such as the municipality or any patient testing positive for COVID-19 in Delaware County, information on contact tracing or how many people have been quarantined as a result. (They) won’t even tell us the number of people being tested in Delaware County.

The paper reports that for decades, Democrats in the county have pressed the cause of a county health department, citing its potential benefits. But Republicans who ruled county government during that time resisted, saying it would be too expensive and wasn’t necessary.

Back where I came from (the Niagara frontier) the Health Department came in pretty useful. They set up well-baby clinics and mass immunizations at the fire hall, and gave the kindergartners their first dental exams (the big chair with the “ears” was set up in the nurses’ office). Free dental checkups and fluoride treatment were also available at the health department building (set up in a historic Roycroft building, which is how that building survived). My parents didn’t make much, so that was how we got medical care.
